Madikeri Taluk Panchayat has decided to convene a meeting to discuss on the registration of land belonging to the government schools, in Madikeri taluk, on December 19.

The decision was taken at a taluk panchayat meeting held under the chairmanship of Taluk Panchayat President Reena Jagannath on Wednesday.

Member Neravanda Umesh said “several donors had donated their land for the construction of the schools in the district. However, the land is not in the name of education department and the school. There is a need to register the land in the name of the schools. The BEO has not initiated any measure to register the land on which school is situated, in the name of the school.”

BEO N Sridharan said: “we are collecting information on the schools. I have already discussed the issue with Tahsildar and Revenue officer.”

EO Nagaraj said that a meeting will be convened to discuss on the registration of land on December 19. Head teachers of the government schools should attend the meeting with all documents related to it.

Member Kavitha Prabhakar said that the high school in Karike is facing shortage of teachers.

A teacher who has been deployed visits the school once in three days. Hence, there is a need to appoint a permanent teacher to the school.

BEO said that there is no shortage of teachers in the district as per the ratio of the students. As there are single teacher schools, there is shortage of teachers. New teachers will be deployed only after appointment.

Member Kavitha Prabhakar said that 234 families in Karike village do not have ration cards. As a result, the families do not get ration in the public distribution system. The problem should be solved at the earliest. The officials from food and civil supplies are not providing any information on applying for new ration cards.

Member Umesh said that the health department has given false information on the decline in number of HIV infected in the district. “A person infected with HIV has died recently at Ballamavati. The officials have failed to create awareness on Aids.”
