B'lore Book Festival starts today

Literary meet, discussions with writers to be a great draw this year

 Close on the heels of the three-day Bangalore Literature Festival, the City is readying itself for yet another literary event – The Bangalore Book Festival.

The ten-day book festival will be inaugurated on Friday at the Bangalore Palace Grounds.
Books in various languages and on myriad subjects shall be a treat for book lovers and collectors alike.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the book festival, Indian Illustrated Classics, Publishers Association and Bangalore Book Sellers, in association with Central Sahitya Academy and Department of Kannada and Culture, will jointly organise Bengaluru Sahityotsava.
Renowned writers, as many as 300 stalls and a million books are something that one would not want to miss at this festival, said organisers.

The festival will showcase 90 Kannada publishers, 150 English publishers, other regional language publishers, developers of book applications and e-books, they added.
Addressing a press conference on behalf of the organisers on Thursday here, writer Chandrashekar Kambar said that a wide array of books in several languages will be displayed at the book festival.

He also added that Jnanpith awardees will be present at the festival.
Kambar added that a series of discussions would be held with writers such as Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari, U R Ananthamurthy, Sitakant Mahapatra and Vasudevan Nair  during the festival.

“The discussions will provide book lovers and enthusiasts an insight into current trends in the Indian literary world,” Kambar said.

The entry to the Bangalore Palace Grounds is through the Tripuravasini gate and the fee is Rs 20 per person for the general public. For teachers and students it is free.

The Jnanpith awardee said that organisers have written to the Department of C
llegiate Education to send circulars to all colleges in the City to encourage students to participate in the book festival and its various events.
