A delegation of JD(S) leaders led by former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday met Governor H R Bhardwaj at Raj Bhavan and impressed upon him not to give assent to the anti-cow slaughter bill and 13 Private Universities Bills passed by the legislature.

These bills were passed on Thursday, the last day of the Belgaum session, sans any debate with the entire Opposition boycotting the proceedings.

Speaking to reporters, Kumaraswamy said provisions of Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 2012, were “anti-minority” and “anti-farmer.”
He said the “vested interest” on the part of the government had been proven as it had got a new bill passed even as the previous bill (2010) is pending Presidential assent.

Kumaraswamy said private university bills were detrimental to social justice as students belonging to SC/ST and OBC sections will not get reservation.
