Madras Engineer Group (MEG) scored a 1-0 win over Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) to climb to the top of the standings in the BDFA Super Division League at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Saturday.

Captain Ramu V converted a penalty in the 40th minute to clinch full points for the Sappers. They have eight points from four matches, while ADE have three from two games.

MEG dominated the first half in an open match. Vineet’s volley from the edge of the box missed the target narrowly in the sixth minute. In the 17th minute, Barjohn sent a fine pass to Girish V K and his shot from the top of the box missed by a whisker.

The Sappers continued to press forward and Dipen Thapa, Barjohn and Hmar Nguernilal combined to make a fine run down the left flank in the 23rd minute. However, Thapa fired over from inside the area. ADE had a lucky break in the 28th minute when Nguernilal blasted wide after a mistake by defender Ermaiah Babu left him unmarked inside the box.

Thapa and Nguernilal tormented the ADE defence with their fine runs down the left flank. MEG took a deserved lead in the 40th minute after goalkeeper Mark Mascarenhas misjudged a cross from the right flank. Thapa outwitted Mark and the ’keeper brought him down inside the penalty area. Ramu fired home the resultant penalty.

ADE put up a much better display in the second half and created a few chances. Anto Xavier shot straight at goalkeeper Sharat Narayan from the top of the ‘D’ in the 48th minute. ADE was left to rue a missed opportunity in the 54th minute after Vineet failed to clear a high ball inside the area and Lovesh shot wide.

ADE’ s frustration continued as an Anto header off a free-kick sailed over the bar in the 71st minute. MEG survived another scare when Babu failed to hit the target in injury time.

Earlier, Jawahar Union edged CIL 3-2 in the A Division. Nixon scored a brace (40th and 42nd) and Arun (56th) completed the tally for the winners. Chandpasha (43rd and 80th) struck twice for CIL.
