Sanam progresses with easy victory

Davis Cupper Sanam Singh demolished Ronak Manuja 6-4, 6-1 in the first round of the ITF Belgaum Open at the VTU Tennis Complex here on Tuesday.

Second seeed Sanam, who won the titles in Davangere and Dharwad, took just 67 minutes to reach the second round where he will meet Portuguese Andre Gasper Murta.
Joining him in the second round with an equally convincing victory was the top seed Sriram Balaji. Balaji got the better of Ajai Selvaraj 6-2, 6-3 in a match that saw some long rallies.

Balaji next faces Mohit Mayur, a 7-5, 6-3 winner over experienced Vivek Shokeen.
The seeded players too sailed into the second round with ease. Third seed Theodoros Angelinos of Greece was too strong for Vignesh Pernamallur, scoring a 6-3, 6-1 win.
The Dharwad finalist young Ramkumar Ramanthan disposed off the Dutch Rutger Cramer 6-1, 6-2.
