In just a couple of days, most offices and educational institutes will close down for the holiday season. Christmas and New Year are not only the time to bond with family and friends — this is also the time when many in the City plan their year-end vacations and head out to various destinations.

With December 25 falling on Tuesday and December 31 on Monday, it’s the perfect time to take a few days off and make a long weekend. And Bangaloreans have already chalked out their vacation plans this season.

The options are aplenty — from mountains and beaches to forest areas as well — but since tourism peaks during this season, most places are already booked. Many travellers say that they have already done their bookings a while back.

Some families will make it a week-long affair by heading out of town during Christmas and ringing in the New Year at their favourite destination.

“New Year is always a special time for the entire family to be together. We try and take a short trip in between Christmas and New Year. This year, we plan to head to a fishing camp near the outskirts of the City, where one can camp close to the river. It will be a nice experience,” says Anandi, a professional.

Shruthi Nayak, another professional, is heading to the forests this holiday season.

“All year round, we are busy in the hustle-bustle of the City. I would like to spend some quality time with my loved ones in a serene place now — that’s why we thought of going to Bandipur this time for New Year’s eve,” she shares.

The beaches are a popular destination for many. Goa is particularly famous for its year-end parties and most youngsters are planning to head off there.

“A couple of my friends and I booked our holiday to Goa almost a month ago. Most say that Goa is going to be packed — but I feel there is no place like Goa to enjoy the holiday season. It’s going to be so cold here in Bangalore, while in Goa, it will be nice and pleasant,” adds Alisha, a student.

But not all are planning to head out of the City this year. Piyush, a student, says that he would rather spend time with his family in Bangalore.

“Holidays are the best time to relax and spend quality time with the family. This year, my relatives from out of town are coming to Bangalore to be with us. It’s going to be fun. After all, there’s no place like home,” he sums up.
