When the news of Sanjay’s death spread on Wednesday, many among his lecturers in the college quizzed; Who is he?

Sanjay Rathore, son of Tararam, a jeweller residing at Hebbal near Trinetra Circle, was allegedly kidnapped on December 12. The decomposed body of Sanjay was found in Varuna canal near Jayapura on H D Kote road on Wednesday.

A low-profile student, Sanjay was living in a world of his own at Vidyashram PU College in Jayalakshmipuram. He was mingling only with a few of his friends — both at college and enroute to his house in Hebbal in the college bus. He was a student of second year commerce with computers, business, economics and accounts as optionals (C2 section).

One friend who had last seen Sanjay alight from the bus near his house on December 12 was a mute spectator to the last rites at Chirashanthidhama in Gokulam on Thursday afternoon. He, along with two others watching the rituals from a corner of the road outside the burial ground, told Deccan Herald, “Sanjay hardly spoke to anybody.

We were his only friends. He had interest in sports and was adept both at cricket and football”. Similar was the opinion of another classmate, who had studied along with Sanjay since his high school days in St Joseph’s School. He had come all the way from D D Urs road for the last rites of his friend.

Ganesh Prasad a lecturer of accounts, who taught Sanjay said: “He was good in academics and had scored 78 per cent in the previous exams. He was writing the ongoing preparatory exams in the college. It was only through the students did I come to know the following day that he had gone missing on December 12.”

Holiday for college

The mortal remains of Sanjay covered in white cloth was taken out from his house to the burial ground. A large group of relatives and friends, mostly belonging to Chowdhury community, the tribe to which Sanjay belongs to, participated in the procession.

As a result, flow of traffic was disrupted for sometime on Contour road in Gokulam. Police; both civil and traffic had made arrangements, manning the procession route.

Fellow traders had downed shutters of their shops for sometime as a mark of respect. The college too had announced a day’s holiday on Thursday postponing the exam paper of the day.
