The Vacation Bench of the High Court on Thursday ordered the State government to publish the final list of reservations for the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections by Friday.

Hearing a petition filed by the State Election Commission, the Bench comprising Justice Anand Byrareddy and Justice B Manohar ordered the government to submit the list containing reservations for the posts of chairpersons of municipal bodies, and for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor on Friday.

The Bench rejected the government’s request seeking six additional weeks to publish the list.

The Election Commission had requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the government for not submitting the reservation list. In the first week of November, it had filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking directions to the government to provide it with the reservation list for elections in 209 ULBs (out of a total of 214), including seven city corporations.

The court then directed the government to furnish the list within 15 days. The government, however, told the court that the final list would be submitted by December 17, but it failed to do so.

The court adjourned the case for further hearing.
