HuJI militant arrested in Kolkata

Muijanur Rehman, a HuJI operative allegedly involved in shoe baron Partha Pratim Roy Burman abduction case of 2001, and also a close associate of another militant  Amir Raza Khan, was arrested from the port area of the city by Special Task Force of Kolkata on Wednesday night. 

“During a raid in port area of the city, the militant identified as Muijanur Rehman, 45, was arrested late last night,” STF chief Rajeev Mishra said.

“The HuJI militant was wanted in connection with the abduction of Khadim's owner Burman and we suspect that he has got strong connection with Amir Reja Khan. Some "suspicious objects" and pamphlets were found in his possession,” Mishra said.

Indian Mujahideen

Khan – the founder of Indian Mujahideen is wanted by the city police in connection with American Centre shootout case. Five policemen were killed when some unidentified people opened fire in front of American Centre in January 2002.Considered to be one of the main persons of HuJI, Muijanur is considered to be close to the terrorist Mufti Abdul Hannan- the founder of this terrorist organisation, sources in STF said. 

When asked about his activities, Mishra said, “Rehman was hiding in Bangladesh for about 12 years and was believed to have sneaked into Kolkata in recent times”. Muijanur was produced before the city court on Thursday was given police custody till January 3, 2013.
