'Psychopath may have raped others too'

Investigators are calling Ram Singh, the main accused in Sunday's gang rape, a ‘remorseless pyschopath’ who may even be involved in earlier cases in which unidentified women have been raped, murdered and dumped in the city.

“Although he has no previous history, he is a remorseless psychopath. During questioning, he remained unrepentant of his act, showing no sign of regret for his horrendous crime,” said a police officer.

The 33-year-old, whose both hands are deformed since an earlier  accident, hails from Rajasthan.

He has been driving city buses for the last few years and lived earlier with his five brothers and mother at Ravi Das Camp in RK Puram sector 3.

But due to his intolerable behaviour, his mother and three brothers left him. After his wife died three years ago, he started living with his younger brother Mukesh Singh, another accused in the gang rape. Police said he often fought with his neighbours after drinking.
On Sunday night, he along with five others went for a joyride in the bus.

It was allegedly at Ram Singh's insistence that the 23-year-old woman was beaten and gang raped. When he was caught on Monday morning he behaved like an innocent, pretending to be unaware about the incident, and tried to mislead police. He continued with this even after the forensic team confirmed the presence of blood and other evidence in the bus.

He, however, revealed the details later. The police officer said that he came across as a hardened criminal during the interrogation.

“The horrific crime he committed can’t be done by a first-time offender. Although he has been caught for the first time he may be involved in other rape cases in which the victims were killed and dumped on city roads.

We have to interrogate him on that also. He is definitely involved in various reported and unreported cases,” said the officer.
