Danger of reality

Nidhi Khiraiya
Student
“Sadly enough while reality shows entertain and amuse youngsters, they definitely do inspire them to take foolish risks. Reality shows are also very misleading giving young people wrong values and false hopes. They are responsible for ruining gullible young minds and their negatively altering their approach to life. Sometimes people are lucky, but most of the time they end up with nothing. It is rare when reality shows positively impact young people as most of the time they only teach youngsters to behave in a silly manner.”

“I was asked to host the newest season of ‘Roadies’, a reality show that is very popular with youngsters. I would definitely say that they have a strong impact on teenagers, in particular, who get a buzz and thrill trying out stunts that they see on TV in front of their friends. Taking risks on the spur of the moment when one is in the company of peers is very much a part of teen behaviour. Cliched as it may sound, forbidden fruit is always sweet and reality TV tempts you to try things you might otherwise not even think of doing!”

“Personally, I believe they do affect the minds of young people like us. We have to realise that at the end of the day, whatever happens in reality shows, isn’t practical. Some of it can be made up. Young people just blindly get carried away and end up hurting themselves physically and mentally. Their perception towards education is adversely affected, which later on proves critical when they’re left jobless in life.”

“These shows are becoming extremely popular because they intrigue audience. However, I think only a minority of youngsters today are actually daring, silly and inspired enough by these shows to try out the dangerous stunts performed in them.”

“No, this was just an unfortunate and tragic accident and probably driven by fate rather than reality television. Such stunts have been shown for years in the movies and one can't really blame reality shows for them.”

“Of course not! Speaking for myself I rarely watch reality television except on that rare occasion when there is nothing else on TV. I am aware that those stunts are performed with the help of extreme security measures and I would follow the disclaimer by not trying it at home.”
