CM to tour flood-hit areas again

He said, the focus of the tour is to make sure that the immediate necessities of the people are taken care of.

Briefing the media after the BJP’s Legislature party meeting, the CM said, he will discuss with the officials of all the affected districts. He also revealed that his proposed trip to New Delhi to seek more funds from the Centre has been deferred. “The Prime Minster has announced that a sum of Rs 1,000 crore will be released. Therefore, the consensus at the all-party meeting and also the suggestion from Union Minister Veerappa Moily was, to defer the trip till the funds are spent,” he said.
A compensation of Rs 50,000 will be given to people who have lost their pucca houses and Rs 7,000 for those who have lost temporary hutments. The members of the Legislature, along with the ministers, will also be contributing one month’s salary for flood relief, said, the party spokesman C T Ravi.

He also said the party MLAs and MLCs will assist in reconstruction in the affected areas. The members of the Legislature will contribute either personally or indirectly, in building houses. Depending on personal capacity, it has been decided that the members will contribute towards building a minimum of 10 houses and a maximum of 500 houses, Ravi added.

Contributions  
The CM said, the Co-operation Department will contribute a total sum of Rs 25 crore. The department, through banks such as the Apex and the DCC, had already contributed a sum of Rs 15 crore to the fund. An additional sum of Rs 10 crore will be given in the next couple of days, he said. The Jungle Lodges and Resorts enterprise has also contributed a sum of Rs 15 lakh to the relief fund.
