“What is important in these types of youth conventions is how one follows the values imbibed by them rather than how you recite what you have learnt.

One should be able to positively transform themselves into a great power and be a role model for real patriotism, real humanitarian values and real understanding of one’s self,” said organiser of Swami Vivekananda 150th birth anniversary committee Swami Vishwathmanandaji Maharaj of Belur mutt, Howra, West Bengal.

He was making his concluding remarks at the valedictory of All Karnataka State Youth Convention -2012, held at Mangalore on Sunday, organised by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangalore. The seer suggested the students that they should study the life of Swami Vivekananda, by forming a study circle with their friends of similar interests, and discuss the values laid by him.

Swami Vivekananda had a great concern towards the poor of India. Today’s youth need to involve themselves in serving of poor, the present generation is highly intelligent than the older generation, but the only thing is that they need a proper channel through able guidance, he opined.

Vice Chancellor of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, Howra, Swami Athmapriyanandaji Maharaj said: “Our mind should be our slave and not vice versa.”

Like the computer operates according to our commands, our mind should act
according to our commands. The computer fails to execute the commands when it is infected by viruses. Similarly, when our mind is full of viruses, it does not obey us.

The real mastery is our mastery over the senses. Hence one should attain the self-control over the senses to achieve extraordinary things, he said.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the life of Swami Vivekananda is relevant even to this day. Vivekananda saw God in everyone’s heart and his life has to be seen through patriotic mood rather than that of spiritual.

Deputy speaker of State Legislative Assembly Yogish Bhat said that religious places should involve themselves in more humanitarian endeavors by reserving a part of income generated by worships for the betterment of poor by establishing Religious Service Centers and efforts are on towards this step.

He said that the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda are very helpful in the making of an ideal politician.

Karnataka Bank Chairman Ananthakrishna, SCS Hospital Director Dr Jeevaraj Sorake were present.
