Two incidents of assault on women were reported from the city fringes on Monday.
Police have arrested an auto driver, after a domestic help, in her complaint, alleged that she was raped on Sunday. The incident happened at Haridevpur in the southern part of the city.

The victim, mother of one, said the accused has been harassing her for quite some time. On Sunday evening, when the victim was alone at home, he sneaked into her house and raped her.

“He threatened that if I opened my mouth, he would kill me. He should be hanged. He has been harassing me for long,” said the victim.

“We received a complaint of rape on Sunday, following which a medical examination was conducted on the victim. The reports are awaited. On the basis of her complaint, we have registered a case against a person named in the complaint,” an officer at the Haridevpur police station said. “The accused, an auto driver, was arrested later.”

In another incident, the police rescued one middle-aged woman from Phultala at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas and admitted her to the hospital. The woman was lying unconscious in a pool of blood.

“Apparently, it seemed that she was physically assaulted. But, to ascertain whether she was raped, we have asked for medical examination. We cannot confirm unless we get the reports,” said Praveen Tripathi, Superintendent of Police, South 24 Parganas.
