'Model' police stations to check crimes against woman

Last Updated 24 December 2012, 19:22 IST

As part of its efforts to bring down the rate of crimes against woman, the Andhra Pradesh Police have decided to establish woman-friendly police stations and one such “model” station, which has a woman receptionist and basic facilities like a clean toilet, has been established at the Banjara hills.

State DGP Dinesh Reddy said that the Delhi gang-rape incident has reinforced his belief that more woman in police force and such “model” police stations would remove hesitancy of women and encourage them to complain against atrocities. “I would like to recruit more woman officers but there are budgetary constraints,” he said.

“We have introduced the system of sub-control rooms attached to each police station. This will allow more police to man the crucial junctions,”he added.
