Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have killed two militants in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district who were allegedly involved in Silver Star hotel shootout on the outskirts of the city on October 19.

One policeman also lost his life in the encounter. Police said the militants were killed in a joint operation by counter-insurgency Victor Force of Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of police at Dodhipora, Kulgam, 75 km from here.

“As soon the joint search party reached the spot where the militants were hiding, they (militants) fired upon them and tried to flee. However, the operational parties pursued them and killed both the militants in open paddy fields between Dodhipora and Kanipora,” a senior police official told Deccan Herald.

The slain militants have been identified as Lashker-e-Toiba District commander Mudisir Ahmad Sheikh alias Mawyia, a local militant and Tamim, a Pakistani militant.
