The moves come in the wake of Shankarappa not taking his voters into confidence while deciding to support the faction led by MLA Varthur Prakash in the election for the post of City Municipal Council president.

President of Citizens’ Welfare Forum, Dr Narayanappa said that the Forum, in its meeting held on Saturday decided to see that the councillor did not participate in any programmes that would be held in the seventh ward.

The office-bearers of the Forum, who strongly condemned the decision of Shankarappa, alleging that the latter has shifted his allegiance with the sole purpose of solving his “personal problems” in the guise of development.

Shankarappa, an advocate by profession was elected from the ward with a view that by virtue of his profession he would address the problems of the area. However, with the shifting of his allegiance, the efforts put in for his victory have gone waste.
“We struggled a lot to ensure the defeat of the candidate, a member of MLA’s faction, who contested against Shankarappa. The very things which we opposed, have been embraced by Shankarappa now. Its really a matter of shame,” the members, reportedly felt.

Direct approach
The meeting resolved to seek redressal of all the problems in the ward only through the City Municipality and the Deputy Commissioner and to do away with the leadership of Shankarappa.

With this decision of the Citizens’ Forum, the displeasure over faction-politics resorted to in the election of City Municipal Council president has become public.
