Folklore varsity to bring out Kannada-Telugu dialects dictionary

The Karnataka Folklore University will come out with a dictionary of Kannada-Telugu bilingual dialects of Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts.

The process of identifying words that reflect the very essence and culture of the two districts bordering Andhra Pradesh has already commenced, said district editor of the project and bilingual writer Sa Raghunath.

Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, Raghunath said it is common for the people of this region to mix Kannada and Telugu words in their day to day life. Their vocabulary will have these “mixed words” as well as those from some occupations, art and certain rituals of the region.

The bilingual dialects have been enriched by folklorists and writers of the region such as Palaveri Kadiripathi, Kaivara Thathaiah, Idaguru Rudrakavi, Hosahudyam Venkatareddy, Gummaraju Ramakavi, Kahala Bhaiyyareddy, Jonkani Muniyappa and Koniga Hanumappa. Besides,  ‘Kelike’ and  ‘Kolata’ artistes and ‘Gabbillu’ singers have also contributed to the huge body of bilingual dialects, he added.

People can contribute to enrich the dictionary and, interested persons can contact Ph: 9980593921 or 9483137885, he said.
