Hospital known for transplant

The 345-bed Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, where the 23-year-old gang rape victim has been shifted, is an internationally known multi-speciality institute.

Reputed in transplants, the hospital has more than 450 experienced specialists. It has 15 wards, a 20-bed critical care unit and a major operating theatre with 12 operating rooms, among others.

Some of the special forms of treatment the hospital provides are bladeless cataract surgery, robotic surgery on prostate cancer and robotic thyroid surgery. Other methods include robotic surgery on colorectal cancer, stem cell transplant and heart failure treatment.

The hospital’s website states: We believe in providing our patients a multi-disciplinary approach to clinical treatment and management of their conditions in bone marrow stem cell transplant.

“Living donor kidney and liver transplants form the pillar of our transplant and cellular therapy programme, and they bring hope and provide therapies to patients of the world,” states the website.

“The hospital performs the largest number of cardiac surgeries and neurosurgeries in the private sector in the region.

The hospital is accredited with the Joint Commission International, and is the first private hospital in Asia to win the Asian Management Award for exceptional people development and management.”

The hospital had recently treated actor Rajnikanth.
