Another round of protests took place in the city with over 500 Jawaharlal Nehru University students and women activists demanding justice for the 23-year-old gang rape victim who has now been shifted to a hospital in Singapore.

“Except for passing the buck, from the chief minister blaming the police commisioner, union home minister and then the mayor what really has been done?” said a protester, adding that activists and students too should be a part of the discussion on changing laws on crime against women.

People gathered at Nizamuddin Gol Gumbaz and marched till Golf Links, carrying placards and shouting slogans. The protesters are demanding removal of the police commsioner and trial in one lakh rape cases to be fast-tracked.

Heavy police presence was seen. Water cannons were also stationed at the protest location.

The protesters criticised a remarks by President Pranab Mukherjee's MP son Abhijit who reportedly said those taking part in rallies in Delhi were “highly dented and painted” women.

“It is shocking that the President’s son made a sexist remark against women participating in the protest,”  said JNU Sociology student Radhika, speaking at a time when his apology was yet to come.

“It was his sister who had to apologise. That shows the ego and insensitivty towards such issues from a man who holds a post,” she said.

The protesters condemed recent violence during the demonstartions, and condoled the death of a police constable deployed to maintain law and order.

“We have always maintained peaceful protests as act of violence goes against the reason we have come here,” said Delhi University student Anand Nath.

“However, the police act of using water cannons, tear gas shells and lathicharge on unarmed protesters was irresponsible. We are the citizens of this country and have the right to protest,” he added.

The protesters said that they will continue with their aigation till no concrete assurance is given on their demands.
