PU student killed while crossing railway track

Another injured, operated upon

Around 11 am the Udyan Express rammed into the duo at the bridge. The train, arriving in the City from Mumbai was already delayed due to the floods. After stoppage at Cantonment railway station, it was heading towards City station.

Vishal Sharma and Harsh Kabra, both students of Mahaveer Jain College, were walking on the track when the approaching train hit them, said Harsh's father Kirti Kumar Kabra.
Vishal succumbed to severe head injuries in a hospital on Monday night, according to sources. Both the legs of Harsh and one of his hands were severed in the accident. "He has been operated at Manipal hospital and is out of danger," his father told Deccan Herald.
"As the particular portion of the track was at an elevated level they (boys) could not have jumped to safety," said a railway official.

Though, some eyewitnesses spoke of a few men jumping down and escaping with injuries, it could not be confirmed, he added.  The driver reversed the train a little in order to ensure the injured duo could be accommodated in the section reserved for guards. As soon as the train reached City station, first aid was rendered to them at the Railway hospital and they were shifted to other private hospitals.
