In an exemplary incident, an elderly woman chased her assailant giving some tough time to him, when the latter made away with her mangalsutra in the city on Wednesday.
Poornima, aged 54 years and wife of Ramesh is that woman. A retired bank employee, Poornima was riding her two-wheeler from her residence in ‘I’ block, Ramakrishna Nagar to her mother’s place in Kuvempunagar around 10.45 am, when the incident occurred.
A bike-borne youth, who rode past her on high tension road from Diganta Bhavan side, took a U-turn only to return and yank off the gold chain weighing 45 grams in total. Not willing to give up easily, Poornima chased the miscreant on her two-wheeler, only to lose his tail.
She enquired the passersby and gave up only when she couldn’t get convincing answers from the locals.
According to the police, the gutsy woman is also well built and so too is the miscreant who targeted her, as told to them by the victim. Kuvempunagar police have registered a case.
