RSS drifting away from its ideology Deve Gowda

Former prime minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda has said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevaka Sangha (RSS) has been drifting away from the very ideals on which it was founded.

“The present day RSS is not functioning on the principles envisioned by its founder, Hedagewar. The present day organisation has moved away from basic ideology of nationalism and patriotism,” Gowda told reporters here on Sunday.

He was reacting to the statements of RSS chief, Mohan Bhagawat, on the recent gang-rape in Delhi. Caste, creed and religion were never on the agenda of the RSS, but have now become its pet topics, he added.

Appropriate solution

Deve Gowda said amending the present law is the appropriate solution to check crimes against women.

However, he advocated suitable changes in the social system too.
The former prime minister noted that the textbooks of yesteryears had lessons conveying moral values to students. Besides parents too were imparting moral education to their children.

The system has collapsed in modern times, he lamented. He said sex and violence were being glorified in the present day media.
