Pakistan to be part of Vibrant Gujarat for the first time

With the much-touted Vibrant Gujarat Industrial Summit scheduled to begin on Friday, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s message of Sadbhavana seems to have crossed the border as well.

As for the first time, business representatives from the Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industries are going to visit this business summit.

Principal Secretary (Industries), Maheshwar Sahu said, “Their area of interest is mainly textile, chemical and gems and jewellery.” Sahu said that they have already confirmed their participation for the summit.

“This will be for the first time that a business delegation from Pakistan is participating in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit,’’ confirmed Sahu.
The Karachi chamber has been warming up to Gujarat as its representatives attended a chemical expo in Ahmedabad last year and even called on Modi at his residence.

Some members had invited Modi to address corporate honchos in Pakistan via video-conferencing. A trade delegation led by senior vice-president of the Karachi chamber, Younus Muhammad Bashir Orawala, had also visited Surat last year.

Modi on his part, had been sending signals of warming up to the nation. During his Sadbhavana mission is 2011, Modi had urged the UPA government to ease visa rules for Pakistani tourists wanting to visit Ajmer Sharif shrine.

Besides Pakistan, business delegations from a number of Islamic nations such as Oman, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and UAE have confirmed participation. Delegates from about 110 countries are likely participate in the three-day business meet.
