Shettar visits 'jinxed' Chamarajnagar

Last Updated 09 January 2013, 20:33 IST

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar shunned all superstitions when he visited the “jinxed” Chamarajnagar city on Tuesday. He spent nearly six hours there before leaving for the JSS mutt near Mysore for an overnight stay.

Chamarajnagar has the dubious distinction of a “jinxed” city. It is believed that if a chief minister visits the city, he is bound to lose power. Even a rationalist like J H Patel did not enter the city while inaugurating Chamarajnagar district when he was the chief minister. He completed the formality at a programme organised atop MM Hills in the district.

The last chief minister to visit the city was H D Kumaraswamy. When the Janata Dal (Secular) leader had just five months to complete his term, he visited the city in 2007. His predecessors S Bangarappa, Veerappa Moily, H D Deve Gowda, S M Krishna and Dharam Singh had visited towns around the city to participate in development programmes.

B S Yeddyurappa had visited Santhemarahalli, 15 km from Chamarajnagar city, but did not enter the city. Almost all chief ministers chose to camp at MM Hills to launch projects.
