Ravindra Kala Bhavan may get heritage building status

Five colleges in Dakshina Kannada may get Centre of Excellence tag

Speaking after inaugurating  Dr P Dayananda Pai and P Sathish Pai building at University College here on Tuesday, he said the proposal is in its final stage. If it is declared as Heritage building, then a grant of Rs 5 crore will be given by the government for its restoration.

Centres of excellence
He said UGC Chairman has promised to consider the proposal of giving tag for five colleges in Dakshina Kannada as the Centres of Excellence. These colleges include  University College, St Aloysius College, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, SDM College, Ujire and St Ann’s College. 

He called upon the officials to give up red tapism and beauracracy at the university level. University is an autonomous body, he added.

Moily said “University College formerly known as government college has added value to people like me and many others. It was here I developed leadership qualities.” Innovative spirit is essential to become a leader.

He said ‘dharma is designed to regulate individual’s conduct, rights, duties. It is nothing but having concern towards lower sections of the society.
He called upon the students to give back the values which college has given to you. Then only the students have performed their dharma, he added.
Moily said “no subject is negligible. Every subject has got its own potentials. Many a time we fail to understand these potentials.”

He urged the Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor and Registrar to ensure that the syllabus are modified every year to suit the market condition. A research wing must be set up in university to track the developments in each faculty. There is a need for capacity building among students. Students must make use of the opportunities available. Educational institutions must give importance to the quality of education. Without quality, institutions will not serve the society.

Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa said MBA (International Business) will be started at the newly inaugurated Dr P Dayananda Pai and P Sathish Pai building at University College premises. New courses in MBA will also be started in the future. The course will commence from October 15, he added.
District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar, MLA Yogish Bhat, U T Khader, MRPL Managing Director U K Basu.

MLA U T Khader assured to donate Rs 5 lakh from the MLA fund towards the development of University College while MLA Yogish Bhat assured of Rs 10 lakh. MRPL Managing Director U K Basu assured to donate Rs 50 lakh towards the construction of a auditorium in the University College premises.

Adoption
Century Group Head and donor Dayananda Pai said that he is ready to adopt University College for its development of the infrastructure and making it a centre of excellence. To which Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa replied positively.
