Indian accident victim gets Rs 32 lakh compensation in Oman

An Indian expatriate, who was rendered disabled after a road accident in Oman two years back has been awarded Rs 32 lakh in compensation by a court in Muscat.

The money (Omani riyals 25000) has been sent to the traffic accident victim through the Indian embassy.

Sasikumar, the victim who hails from Kerala, was hit by a vehicle while he was walking on the road and suffered serious head injuries in an accident in 2010 in Al Khoud area.
"He had suffered serious head injuries. According to the medics, the victim had 100 per cent disability," a legal adviser was quoted as saying in a report in the Times of Oman.
"The money has been sent through the Indian embassy," he added.

According to statistics released recently by the Royal Oman Police (ROP), 1,131 people were killed and 11,364 were injured in various road accidents in the country during 2012.
