Stress-related disorders on the rise

Speaking at a conference on ‘Stress, Alcohol and Suicide – Paths that Converge’ held at Command Hospital (Air Force) in the City here, Prof Murthy said, “In mega cities such as Bangalore, despair due to issues like land claims dispute, paucity of amenities, loss of faith in police disregard to health, inadequate and inappropriate cultural interactions has led to the high incidence of stress related disorders, alcohol abuse, and suicide - the three being interrelated”.

 Held on the occasion of World Mental Health Day on October 11, the conference was held to deliberate upon the various ways and means to combat the menace of stress and alcoholism and to prevent suicide.

The conference was inaugurated by Air Marshal V R Iyer, Air Officer Commanding in-Chief,  Training Command, IAF, Bangalore who emphasised upon the need for all citizens irrespective of their training to display a genuine desire to help somebody when in need.
