I'm only an SMS away: Sibal to V-Cs

Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday assured the vice-chancellors of 14 such universities of full government support and even told them that they could just send him an SMS if they faced any problem.

In his introductory remarks  at the meeting of the vice-chancellors of the new central universities, Sibal said they should look at conducting a common entrance test for admission to their courses, to enable common counselling so that students and their families are saved the trouble of going to various locations for tests and counselling.
The minister also asked the universities to create an eco-system in their states for high quality research and also to design academic courses which could create employment within the State.

Sibal suggested that academic courses be designed in such a manner to make possible temporary mobility of students and faculty from one university to the other.

He asked the universities to invite faculty from abroad and from the private sector in India also for short-term teaching stints. Sibal promised all support from the government—financial and administrative—to the institutions so that they can offer quality education.
“This was a rare gesture on part of the minister as he said that we can even send an SMS to get redressal to any issue concerning our university. We really appreciate this gesture,” a vice-chancellor said.

The vice-chancellors of 14 universities attended the meeting.
