Three men, including a Safdarjung Hospital employee and an MBA, have been arrested for allegedly making extortion calls to a north-west Delhi businessman demanding Rs 15 lakh with one of them pretending to be underworld don Chhota Rajan, police said on Saturday.

Manjoor Khan, 25, Ranvijay Rao, 27, and Mohammad Asif, 27, were part of an interstate gang operating in Delhi and Gujarat.

The fake Chhota Rajan gang targeted affluent people, threatening to kill their family members, police said.
The arrests came after a businessman from Pitampura lodged a complaint with Maurya Enclave police station on January 2, saying that he was getting extortion calls from Chhota Rajan.

“Regular demands for Rs 15 lakh were being made. The complainant was threatened with dire consequences,” said Mohammad Akhtar Rizvi, deputy commissioner of police (north-west). His son would be killed if he went to police, he was told.

Police then put his mobile phones under electronic surveillance. They also kept tabs on workers at his factory.
Following instructions from police,  the businessman carried a bag – supposedly containing Rs 6 lakh – to the meeting point with the extortionists near Safdurjang Hospital.

A police team nabbed the gang’s collection agent Asif red-handed as he received the bag. Ranvijay was next arrested in Kidwai Nagar on January 9.

But mastermind Manjoor was unaware about the developments. “He was also arrested red-handed near IFFCO Chowk Metro station when he came to collect the money on January 11 as per plan,” Rizvi said.
A fourth gang member, Satender,  is still at large and teams have been deployed to nab him.  Later, the gang was also found involved in another case of extortion with the  same modus operandi in Vadodara in Gujarat, police said.

Manjoor, who hails from Bihar’s Gopalganj district, has been to Saudi Arabia. “He is the main person who used to present himself as Chhota Rajan to extort money,” Rizvi said.
MBA Ranvijay is a native of Uttar Pradesh and works with Silokhera Genpact in Gurgaon sector 31, while Asif works as a technical medical assistant at Safdarjung Hospital.
