'Youth's arms chopped over rape allegation'

Cops arrest him for assault, victims family members in custody for attacking him

A youth, whose arms were allegedly chopped off a month ago for not repaying a loan, was arrested by Karuali police for raping a girl.

A group of seven persons at Baloti village in Karauli district had allegedly cut both the arms of Pappu Sharma for failing to repay Rs 25,000.

Sharma was admitted to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur on December 7 last year in a serious condition. Police had also arrested six persons in this connection.

However, police now confirmed that it was for alleged rape and not for money that he was attacked.

Sharma had allegedly raped a girl. Outraged by this, seven persons including two brothers, four cousin brothers and father of the victim had chopped off the youth’s hands.

On December 16, the victim, under Section156 (3) of CrPC had lodged a case of rape against the youth.

The victim had alleged that the youth had raped her many times.  
Sharma was undergoing treatment at SMS hospital.

Allegation verified

“A team was on the job to find out whether allegations were true. After a thorough investigation, finally when the allegations were found true, he was arrested,” said Anand Srivastav, inspector general of police, Bharatpur range.

Sharma was arrested from Todabhim area of Karauli. He was then produced before a local court, which sent him to judicial custody of 14 days, said Murari Lal, station house officer, Sapotara police station, Karauli.

In the case of attack on the youth, police had already arrested six persons including father and brothers of the accused.
