Connoisseurs of music in city await Nada Taranga

R K Srikantan, Prabha Atre and others to perform

Bahuroopi just got over, after treating theatre buffs to a week-long feast. Here comes a treat for cognoscenti with Nada Tarangotsava, a national-level music fest in the city from January 18 to 20 at Sriranga, Rangayana in the city.

The three-day programme organised by Karnataka Sangeeth Nritya Academy promises a melange of art forms like; folklore, gamaka, katha keerthana, vachana, classical music, light music, talavadya and also orchestra.

Renowned musicians R K Srikantan, Prabha Atre, Banandur Kempaiah, Rameshwarappa, vidushi Gangamma Keshavmurthy, Pandit Venkatesh Kumar, Manjula Gururaj, Y K Muddukrishna, Ambaiah Nuli, Raveendra Soragavi, Giridhar Udupa and Rajesh Vaidya among others are expected to entice the music lovers.

On January 18 at 10.30 am at Sriranga, Srikantam Nagendra Shastry will speak on Veda, while K Rameshwarappa will speak on folklore, N K Ramasheshan on ghamaka, Sarvamangala Shankar on vachana and R N Srilatha on music.

R Viswesvaran will inaugurate the lecture series. On the same evening at 5.30 pm, minister for Kannada and Culture Govinda M Kharjol will inagurate the fest at Vanaranga. Medical education and district in-charge minister S A Ramdas  and State sangeeth vidwan awardee S Mahadevappa will be the chief guests. Chaireprson of Karnataka Sangeeth Nritya Academy Vyjayanthi Kashi will preside.

The inaugural session will be followed by Veda ghoshti at 6.15 pm by Manjunath Shrowthi and troupe, folk songs by Banandur Kempaiah and Rameshwarappa, ghamaka recital by Gangamma Keshavamurthy, Katha keerthana by Lakshmanavasa and vachana recital by Pt Venkatesh Kumar.

Following day, January 19 at Sriranga at 10.30 am, lectures on Karnatak music, Hindustani and light music by R K Srikantan, Prabha Atre and Y K Muddukrishna respectively has been organised.

On the same evening at 6 pm, Chamaraja MLA H S Shankarlinge Gowda and commissioner for Kannada and culture K R Ramakrishna will be  the chief guests.
 Karnatak music recital by R K Srikantan is organised at 6 pm, Hindustani by Prabha Atre and light music by Manjula Gururaj and troupe; Y K Muddukrishna, Ambaiah Nuli, Reveendra Soragavi and S Mallanna.

On January 20 at 6 pm, valedictory is organised at Vanaranga with music critic R Satyanarayana and acting deputy commissioner M N Ajay Nagabushan as chief guests. Vyjayanthi Kashi presides. It will be followed by tala vadya by Giridhar Udupa and orchestra by Rajesh Vaidya is organised.
