The JD(S) on Thursday said it would support a no-confidence motion against the Jagadish Shettar government if the principal opposition party, the Congress, takes the initiative of moving the motion in the Assembly.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, JD(S) Floor Leader in the Assembly H D Revanna said his party legislators would vote against the government if the no-trust motion is moved by the Congress.

Revanna was responding to queries from reporters on speculation in political circles that some of Yeddyurappa’s loyalist legislators in the BJP would resign en masse on January 23 reducing the government to a minority.

Revanna said the JD(S) would contest in all the 224 Assembly constituencies and the first list of candidates would be announced on January 23.

He also demanded that the State government convene an emergency special session of the Legislature to pass a resolution insisting that the Centre should refrain from notifying the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.
