The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has entered into a pact with Youth Hostels’ Association of India (YHAI) to construct an international youth hostel at the BMRCL’s Srigandhakaval Housing Colony, on Wednesday.

BMRCL Managing Director N Sivasailam said the project was being taken up considering the YHAI‘s contribution in promoting international and national tourism. Impressed by facilities provided by YHAI at nominal rates, Sivasailam said: “I am hopeful that this hostel will be helpful to backpackers and budget travellers who visit Bangalore.”
Important destination

YHAI national president Harish Saxena said international hostellers’ community has expressed happiness that such a facility is being created in Bangalore, which is an important destination for those who travel to India.

YHAI national chairperson S Venkat Narayanan said the plan was to open the Bangalore International Youth Hostel in 30 days.

Youth Hostels’ Association of India has more than one lakh life members and 50,000 annual members spread across the country with 240 units in 22 States.

With 80 licensee youth hostels in India, 10,000 members participate in various adventure programmes organised by the YHAI annually, which promote national integration and communal harmony, he added.
