Maharashtra in front

Cricket Cooch Behar Trophy: Ranjane slams century; Suchith scalps six for hosts

Shubham S Ranjane completed a fine century to help Maharashtra wrest the initiative against Karnataka on the second day of their Cooch Behar Trophy under-19 semifinal here on Monday.

Taking off from where he had left on Sunday evening, Ranjane, overnight on 66, stitched together another determined display, slamming 149 as Maharashtra kicked onto a challenging 476 all out in 152.5 overs at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

While Ranjane deserves compliments for his 301-ball knock that was studded with 23 boundaries, Maharashtra will also have to thank the last wicket pair of JP Zope (37) and Jaideep Khetre (6). The duo added an invaluable 44 runs before being separated just on the stroke of tea.

Left-arm spinner Suchith J was the pick of the bowlers for Karnataka, scalping six for 140.
Karnataka, who fought back well in the final session to reach 84/1 in 30 overs, did not get off to the best of starts though.

Opener Rohan Kadam (16) looked good in his short 31-ball stay before being dismissed by Anmol Chinte while attempting a hook.

However, D Nischal (47 batting) and Abhinav Manohar (18 batting) weathered any further storm, putting up a dogged show to raise the hosts’ hopes in what promises to be an exciting third day.

Brief scores: Maharashtra: 476 all out in 152.5 overs (Jay Pande 65, Vijay Zol 56, Yassar Shaik 40, Shubham S Ranjane 149, Nikhil Naik 50, Atish Varpe 46, JP Zope 37; Suchith J 6-140) vs Karnataka: 84/1 in 30 overs (D Nischal 47 batting).
