Every year, onion is grown in these two hobli. However, owing to the heavy rains, the crops have been lost this year. This year, the yield was good. Owing to the heavy rains, several farmers could not fetch the fruits of their labour. Some have harvested the crop. However, it has started rotting now owing to the heavy rains. Some try to harvest by paying Rs 25-0 per bag, however, the price for onion in the market has come down drastically.

“Every year, we onion growers face one or the other problem every year. Shortage of fertilisers, less rainfall are some of the problems faced by us so far. When the crop was good and was about to harvest, rain spoiled the game. Now the prices of onion have come down in the market. The money which we have spent for the crop, we are not able to get it back. All our efforts have been vein. Just like the way government responds to the arecanut and coffee growers, it should respond to the woes of the onion growers.”
