A pregnant woman was among six people hurt when the family was beaten up by neighbours after a young couple eloped.  The alleged assailants were members of the girl's family.

The family members were infuriated after the 21-year-old woman eloped with a youth from the same neighbourhood of Raju Extension near Old Palam Road in south-west Delhi, police said on Monday.

On Saturday morning, the went to the youth's household and allegedly assaulted his family members.
Six members of the youth's  family, including his pregnant sister-in-law, were injured. They were identified as Surendra Singh, his mother Santosh, wife Bharti, sister Latesh, and two brothers Gaurav and Suraj.
They were admitted to a nearby hospital where doctors said the condition of the pregnant woman was serious, though stable.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by her husband, a case of house trespass and voluntarily causing hurt was registered with the Dwarka North police station.

Surendra told police that his younger brother Krishna eloped with the girl on January 24 without informing anyone in the family, and the two got married. He added that they were unaware of Krishna’s plan, and were trying to trace the couple.

Meanwhile, the woman's family suspected the involvement of Krishna as he was also missing. “They had lodged a case of abduction suspecting Krishna’s involvement,” said a police officer.

Phone call

But two days after they eloped, the woman called her mother and informed that she had married Krishna.
