Global giants to take part

Aero India 2013, the largest air show in Asia is all set to kickstart at the Air Force Station at Yelahanka here on Wednesday.

The biennial airshow and aviation exhibition, which is organised by the Ministry of Defence along with the Indian Air Force (IAF), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Department of Space and the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, aims to showcase the range of products and services offered by the Indian Defence industry in the international market.

But the displays are not limited to products developed by the Indian defence industry. In recent years, the airshow had drawn companies from all around the world, from Brazil to Japan.

Sources said participation in Aero India has grown exponentially by both Indian and international industry since the first edition held here in December 1996.

Growth trajectory
While Aero India 2011 saw the participation of exhibitors from 29 countries and included more than 600 companies and a gross exhibition area of 75,000 sqm, the ninth edition is expected to be witness to the participation of over 700 companies and 78 overseas delegations, covering an approximate gross exhibition area of 1,25,000 sqm.
Major participants include defence companies from the United States, Israel, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy, Ukraine, Australia, Belarus, Czech Republic, Japan, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore.
