Grand welcome awaits Spl Olympics gold medalist

Suneetha is the only athelte from Karnataka in team

The Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre for Mentally Challenged Children, Pamboor, is organising a grand ceremonial welcome to Suneetha Lobo who has won the gold medal in the floor hockey in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in PyeongChang in South Korea. Suneetha is the member of the 11 member team that won the gold medal.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre for Mentally Challenged Children President Remedia D'Souza said Suneetha will be accorded a grand ceremonial reception at Katpadi on February 9.

Later, she will be taken in a grand procession from Katpadi to Pamboor. She added that Suneetha was interested in sports since her childhood. She initially qualified in the floor hockey selection camp held in Shimla during July 2011. She was chosen for two preparatory Olympics in the national camp. Besides she also took part in the preparatory camp held in Himachal Pradesh from January 3 to 8, 2013, she said.

Suneetha Lobo is the native of Hanehalli village in Barkur. She is the daughter of late Peter Lobo and Helen Lobo. She has two brothers and sisters. The 22 year old differently abled athlete was admitted at Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre for Mentally Challenged Children in 2003, she said.
