Lawyer's murder: 2 detained

The City police, who are said to have cracked the murder of Amardeep Kainth, a prominent lawyer, have detained two men in connection with the case.

Kainth, 53, a native of Himachal Pradesh, was found brutally murdered at his flat on Friday.

Roopam Bora and Sanjay Hazarika, both security guards at the apartment where the victim stayed, have been detained.

A special team that was constituted to probe the case detained the two in Kolkata, from where they were trying to flee to Assam, their home state.

T G Krishna Bhat, DCP (East), however, told Deccan Herald that no one has been arrested in connection with Kainth’s case yet.

Bhat, however, declined to comment on the detention of the two Assamese security guards.

The fact that some valuables are missing from Kainth’s apapartment has given rise to speculation that the incident was a murder for gain.

The victim’s wife and his two children are yet to arrive from Germany.

Gang confesses to murder

A gang of six men arrested by the City police for plotting robbery, has confessed to a murder during interrogation.

Acting on a tip-off that a gang was hatching robbery at the lorry stand in Jaraganahalli on Kanakapura Main Road, the Kumaraswamy Layout police had arrested six men: Manjunath 22, Venkatesh 23,  Madhusudan, Chandrashekar, Veera and Karthik, all aged 21 years. They were booked for dacoity.

However, after a sustained interrogation, the gang members confessed to have committed a murder 11 months ago.

On March 5, 2012, the Kumaraswamy Layout police had received a complaint from R Appana Reddy, who said he had found a badly bludgeoned body in a small canal adjacent to his plot near Yalachenahalli playground in Jaraganahalli. The body was later identified as that of Nagaraju, a local resident. The murder had remained a mystery.

According to police, during interrogation, the gang members said that they killed Nagaraju over a trivial issue. The arrested are now booked for murder.
