Murder: Six inter-state dacoits held

 Lashkar police claim to have busted the murder case of an egg merchant reported in the city on December last, arresting a gang of six inter-state dacoits, including a kin of the victim. The accused hail from Vellore district in Tamil Nadu.

Disclosing this to media in the city on Sunday, police commissioner K L Sudheer gave the names of the accused as Ramesh, 33 years, supervisor, Thonnamthop, Devarshikuppam village, K Parandhaman, 25 years, tender coconut vendor, Amnakuppam village, Syed Shakeer alias Shakeer, 30 years, car driver, Desi Kuppam, Shahid Basha, 28 years, steel furniture vendor, Palligundam, Shankar, 38 years, carpenter, Ambur and Aizaz Ahmed, 34 years, factory worker, Gudiyattam and also the relative of the deceased.

On December 17, 2012, Abdul Salam (82), an egg merchant was found murdered at his house on the busy K T Street near K R Hospital post noon. A gang of unidentified miscreants had barged into the house soon after the man opened the door. When Abdul Salam tried to resist, he was stabbed and throat was slit by the intruders.

 His daughter-in-law Reshma Bhanu had to taste the wrath of the attackers, who inflicted wounds on her with a knife and gagged her, before fleeing with valuables; 476 grams of gold, 500 grams of silver and also cash totalling worth Rs 15.48 lakh.

The commissioner said, Aizaz is the cousin of Reshma Bhanu. It was he, who was well aware of the affluent family and hatched a plan to strike, only for a windfall. He roped in his friends and meticulously executed the act, giving outside help.

On that ill-fated day, the first two accused Ramesh and Parandhaman played the main role by barging into the house. Shankar had done a recce of the locality and the house based on the descriptions given by Aizaz.

A police team drawn from different police teams, got first break with the arrest of Shakeer and Aizaz in Ambur railway station, which led to the arrest of the remaining members of the gang on January 31. They were later produced before a court here and taken into custody.

The commissioner also distributed reward to the police for cracking the sensational case.

The police team comprised inspectors D Prabhakar Rao Shinde (Lashkar), T B Rajanna (Mandi) and Ashok Kumar (Udayagiri), sub-inspectors Syed Shabbeer Hussain (Mandi), Narendra Babu (Airport), Omkarappa and Srinivas Gowda (Lashkar) among others.
