Cancellation of transportation tender urged

It was called in gross violation of rules
Last Updated 18 October 2009, 18:01 IST

The Bharathiya Dalit Sene and Dr B R Ambedkar Prachar Samiti members have urged that the tender for bulk transport of food grains for the year 2009-10 and 2010 -11 should be cancelled.

In response to a tender notification to appoint contractors for bulk transportation, four tenders were submitted. Of them two were rejected. Out of the remaining two,  NKTC had quoted rates lesser than that sanctioned previous year. However, instead of awarding the tender to NKTC, the tender was cancelled in violation of rules and fresh re-tenders were called, alleged Narayana Swamy and Jayaraj of Dalit Sene.

According to the State transparency Act, before calling for tenders a notification has to be published. Advertisements should be placed in two prominent news papers at least 15 days in advance.

However, in this case, a single advertisement was placed in a local paper on Oct 8, only two days prior to the last date of receiving the application.

The last date for submission of the tenders is Oct 13, hence the 15 days time duration that has to be allowed is not given. This is a clear case of violation of rules. Hence the re-tender process must be cancelled, they said.

A letter to this effect was already submitted to the Food and Civil Supplies Department, by the Dalit Sene and Dr Ambedkar Samiti, they informed.
