Rs 50,000 for rebuilding houses


Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, speaking to reporters after visiting the flood-affected Chikkamanchali and Tungabhadra near here on Saturday, said, the Union and State governments will pay Rs 35,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively for construction of pucca houses. Apart from this, Rs 1,000 each will be provided for purchasing clothes and utensils.

The CM said 500 primary schools and equal number of higher primary schools will be constructed in the flood-affected region. School books, bags and uniforms will be provided to the students at the earliest. “Politics will not come in the way of distribution of relief. Middlemen and bribery will not be tolerated in the task,” he declared. The aggregate farm loans in the state amounts to Rs 900 crore and the Union government will be requested to waive off the loan.

Yeddyurappa said that he will write to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Rosaiah seeking assistance in reconstruction of the Tungabhadra bridge, washed away in the floods. The bridge is a principal link between Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It requires Rs 250 crore for reconstruction. As announced, the government has released Rs 10 crore for development of rain-ravaged Mantralaya, the CM disclosed.

Yeddyurappa observed Deepavali with flood victims at Surpur in Gulbarga taluk. He dined with 200 refugees at Tinthini Mouneshwara temple in the town. He assure of all assistance to the flood victims in rebuilding their lives.
