For the benefit of visually challenged, National Federation of the Blind in the city has made purchasing Braille equipment easy.

The federation having its office on Moksha Marga, Siddarthanagar in the city, will be henceforth selling Braille equipment like; slate, watch and chess board, cricket ball, stick and long cane, pocket frame among a total of 38 materials available for the community.

Earlier, visually challenged had to procure the articles through parcel from Chennai, Delhi and Dehradun after making required payment. Though the equipment were available in Bangalore, not much of the articles were put on the list. Another place near to Karnataka, is Katpaadi in Tamil Nadu where the materials are available.

Siddaraju of the federation told Deccan Herald, already 50 per cent of the total stock procured from Dehradun has been sold and another order has been placed. When the materials were bought through parcel, there were chances of damage. Now, buying the equipment has been made easy.  It is an effort fructified after two years.

The old Mysore region comprising Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Mandya districts has roughly around 8,000 visually challenged people. Among them 200 are students pursuing education at different levels.
