Geetika's mother left a note for son also

Last Updated 16 February 2013, 20:19 IST

Former employee of MDLR Airlines Geetika Sharma’s mother left two suicide notes before taking the extreme step at her Ashok Vihar residence in north-west Delhi, police said on Saturday.

According to P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (north west), 51-year-old Anuradha Sharma has addressed the note to her son Ankit.  “The personal letter explained reasons why she took the extreme step,” Karunakaran said.

She had asked Ankit to stay strong and fight till former Haryana politician Gopal Goyal Kanda and his close aide Aruna Chaddha are punished. In the second suicide note, Anuradha blamed Kanda and Chaddha for ruining their family and forcing Geetika to kill herself. “The reason behind my death is my daughter’s death, which happened due to atrocities by Gopal Kanda and Aruna Chaddha,” the note said.

Anuradha, who worked as an accountant in the Union finance ministry, returned home from office around 4:30 pm on Friday.  She was later found hanging from a ceiling fan in Geetika’s bedroom by her sister-in-law, who lives on another floor in the building. The body was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital. It was then handed over to the family after post-mortem on Saturday. The body was consigned to flames at Punjabi Bagh crematorium.

Fresh trouble

A fresh case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC has also been filed against Kanda and Chaddha with the Bharat Nagar police station on the basis of the suicide note.

Kanda reportedly spent a sleepless night in his cell at Tihar jail. “Kanda was tense and wanted updates. He kept moving and did not sleep. He also refused dinner. He kept on gulping water and was seen clasping his forehead in despair,” a jail official said.

The police, however, denied that Sharma’s family complained about being put under severe pressure for a compromise. “We are studying the contents of the suicide notes and all angles are being probed,” another police official said. If required, Kanda and Chaddha could also be taken into police custody for interrogation.
