Cartoon show by Suresh Sawant in B'lore

Busy promoting the humorous artworks of cartoonists round the year, the City-based Indian Cartoon Gallery now has the works of Suresh Sawant on show.

From corruption to deforestation, poverty to pollution, Sawant’s works cover a mindboggling range of topics.

Kicked off on Saturday by R Sreedhar from the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, the exhibition of cartoons will continue at the Gallery, Midford Gardens, near Kids Kemp, off MG Road, till March 2. The expo is closed on Sundays.

Inspired by eminent cartoonists Bal Thackeray and Walt Disney, Suresh Sawant started drawing cartoons at a very young age. Later he worked with The Times of India group and drew eco-cartoons for The Economic Times.

He rose to become the Editor from India for International Cartoon Magazine ‘WittyWorld.’ He is also on the editorial board of ‘International Journal for Comic Art, USA. He has to his credit many awards in national and international cartoon contests.

Sawant represented India in the International Cartoon Conferences held in Hungary, Japan and the United States. He is the recipient of ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ given by India’s only cartoon magazine ‘Cartoonwatch’ in 2010.
