JOIN USThe First Additional Chief Metropolitan Court on Monday cleared actor Darshan of the charges of assaulting his wife.
The actor’s wife Vijayalakshmi had lodged a complaint with the Vijayanagar police on February 9, 2011, accusing Darshan of assaulting her and threatening her at gun-point.
She had also alleged that Darshan attempted to smother their son. Based on the complaint, police had arrested Darshan.
He was granted bail by the High Court on October 8. Meanwhile, Darshan and his wife came to a compromise out of court and this led to the release of the actor from the prison.
However, the Vijayanagar police refused to quash the case and filed a charge sheet in the court.
Depose before court
Vijayalakshmi, his mother Sumathi, and his car driver Lakshman had deposed before the court on February 15 and made a statement that Darshan had not assaulted his wife.
But the Vijayanagar police refused to close the case and filed a charge sheet in the court.
The court disposed of the case for want of evidence, but gave the police 30 days’ time to go in appeal.
