SAI synthetic hockey stadium inauguration today

The work on synthetic hockey stadium commenced 10 years ago. However, the inauguration was delayed for some reasons.  

The synthetic hockey stadium was laid at an estimated cost of Rs 3.30 crore. Rs 68 lakh was utilised for the construction of SAI hostel.

Union Minister of State for Youth Service and Sports Prateek Prakash Bapu Patil will inaugurate the hostel and stadium on Tuesday at 10 am.

State Minister for Sports Goolihatti D Shekar, MP H Vishwanath, MLA M P Appachuranjan, Agriculture University Vice Chancellor P G Changappa, Olympian Dr M P Ganesh, DC K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda will be the chief guests.

The work on laying synthetic hockey turf commenced in 1999. However, in 2006, the land was handed over to PWD for the construction of building. The work on the construction of hostel building commenced in 2006.

However, the work did not progress owing to various reasons. In 2007, the work on the girls hostel completed. In 2007, synthetic turf from Australia arrived Madikeri. The work on laying synthetic turf completed in March 2008. However, owing to the announcement of Parliamentary election, the inauguration of the stadium delayed.

Coorg Hockey Association has already announced to conduct super division hockey league tournament in the stadium at the earliest. It has also decided to conduct hockey training for boys in the district.
