Man kills wife, flees with children

Strangles her with saree

A construction worker strangulated his wife to death and fled with his two children in Sampigehalli late Sunday night.

The victim, identified as Baby alias Bayyamma, was a resident of Agrahara in Sampigehalli. She was married to Jayaram, 35. The couple have two children — Punith and Pavani, aged four and two years, respectively, police said.

Jayaram hailed from Bagepalli in Chikkaballapur district, while Bayyamma was from Lakshmipura in Srinivaspur taluk of Kolar district.

The couple fought frequently as Jayaram had taken to alcohol over the past few months, police said.

Petty quarrel

On Sunday, Jayaram returned home inebriated and picked a quarrel with Bayyamma over a petty issue. In a fit of rage, he strangulated her using her saree and fled from the house with his children, the police said.

A few neighbours who noticed the couple’s fight, grew suspicious after none of the family members came out of the house.

They alerted the police, who rushed to the spot.

Police opened the door and found Bayyamma’s body lying on the floor. The body was shifted to Dr B R Ambekdar Medical Hospital for post mortem. The victim’s parents were alerted about the incident. A search has been launched to trace Jayaram, police said.

Later, they threatened Pasha and took away Rs 2,900 in cash and two cellphones from him.
