Countdown begins for Kumbh Mela

Health units, temporary toilets, drinking water, boat facility, divers to be in place

Deputy commissioner Ramegowda said that the preparatory works for ninth Kumbh Mela at Triveni Sangama at Tirumakudalu Narasipura are in final stages. He has instructed officials to complete the remaining works to facilitate the once in a three year event starting from February 23 to 25.

He was speaking after reviewing the progress of works of various departments here on Thursday.

Mentioning about the do’s and don’ts, he said, videotaping and capturing photographs of devotees while taking holy dips at the river is banned. CCTV cameras will be installed at  necessary areas. He said, lifting of sand from the river will be freezed during the period.

The DC briefed that necessary precautionary measures have been taken to avoid any untoward happenings in the event which is expected to attract thousands of devotees.
Red ropes will be used to alert people from entering prohibited area. Temporary health units will be set up. Barricades will be installed to divide the bathing places for swamijis and devotees. He inquired officers about the divers, boat facility, security, drinking water facility, temporary toilets and uninterrupted electricity supply. He even mentioned about the mobile drinking water units, cleanliness of roads, generator facility, lighting of temples and other required facilities for the Kumbh Mela. He stressed about the necessary precautionary measures near the sangama. Police superintendent R Dileep said that to avoid traffic jam at the venue, vehicles of invitees will be allowed.  

President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, local unit,Mu Ru Nagendra Kumar and others requested for an alternative temporary bridge to the religious auditorium as the only one constructed now may be problematic for devotees.

Assistant commissioner Basavaraju said that entry to all devotees to the religious auditorium is prohibited while, only select VIPs and religious heads will be provided entry.
Nagannachar of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, zilla panchayat executive engineer S R Purushotham, circle police inspector K S Sundar Raj, Anand of mining department, assistant executive engineer of PWD Dayanand, taluk panchayat president Andani, executive officer C Venkatesh, Bhyrapura gram panchayat president Padma, local elected representatives and officers of various departments were present.  The DC along with officers visited various other spots including Agastheshwara temple.
